If you are staying in Bergamo, the best way to get to the city center is by bus. It’s easy, it’s cheap and the fastest way. The journey takes 25-30 minutes. The frequency of the bus is every 20 minutes.
You will find bus number 1 right in front of the arrival area.

How to buy a ticket for bus number 1 to the city center?
There are different machines at the bus stop, where you can buy a ticket to get to the city center or citta alta.

If you already have a ticket, you might need to validate it as shown on the below photo. Validation means the machine stamps the date and the time of the tickets. As the single tickets are valid for only 75 minutes.

If there was a big queue in front of the ticket machine, and did not get a chance to buy a ticket, not to worry, you can still buy it on a bus. There are ticket vending machines inside the bus:
- This machine is usually behind the driver, in front of the bus. Accepts coins, banknotes and cards. You can pay by contactless as well.

2. There is another machine in the middle of the bus and at the back entrance of the bus, that accepts only card payments. You can only tap once with one card per traveler. You cannot pay for 2 or more tickets with the same card. Please note that this machine will not print the ticket.

The bus number 1 goes directly to Bergamo train station which is in city center. There is only one stop between the airport and the station, via Orio fr 43, in Malpensata area. If you need to go from the Bergamo airport to citta alta, you can stay on the bus when it stops at the train station. Most people think that the train station is the last bus stop, but you can ask the driver if he goes to citta alta.
The schedule of the bus
The timing of the bus changes depending on the season. You have to check on the website https://atb.bergamo.it/en/public-transport/routes-stops-and-timetables. The timetable change depending on school / holiday seasons, and on the day of the week. The schedule is different from Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The schedule below helps you to understand the basics of departure timing. This schedule is valid from 9th of June 2024, which is written on top of the photo. The last bus that goes to the city center departs from the airport at 1:40 am. On Sundays, it departs at 1:30. The early morning bus departs to the city center at 4:50. On Sundays, the earliest bus departs at 6:28. The last table shows the timetable of bus departures from 12th to 18th of August 2024.

What is the ticket price from Milan Bergamo airport to city center?
Bergamo province is divided into zones. In order to travel from the airport to the city center, you have to cover more than 3 zones, therefore, the ticket price for an adult is €3.50. When buying a ticket, choose Piu Zone 120’ for €3.50. This ticket is valid for 120 minutes (this covers the funicular as well)

Ticket price for children:
If you are traveling with children, the ticket price for a child under 1 meter in height is free, but the child must be accompanied by a paying adult.
